Edgewise Braces / Edgewise Appliance
Edgewise refers to the method by which a rectangular archwire is inserted into the bracket. Dr. Edward H Angle introduced the edgewise appliance to orthodontics in 1925.
Edgewise design provided three dimensional control of individual teeth. It also facilitates wire changes.
Diagnostic facial triangle is used for diagnosis and treament planning. Anchorage preparation is done to prevent mandibular and maxillary molars from drifting anteriorly in response to he intermaxillary elastics used for retracting to the anteriors.
Edwise bracket has a bracket slot measuring 0.022″ x 0.028″ with single or double tie wings. The bracket slot project horizontally from the base of bracket.
